Welcome to Powys Integrated Children's Centres

Since their inception in 1999 both the Welsh Assembly Government and the National Assembly have demonstrated their wish to develop and support a progressive children's policy in Wales. A key initiative has been the effort to establish at least one Integrated Children's Centre (ICC) in each of the 22 Local Authorities in Wales.

Powys has reponded positively to the challenge and is in the process of developing five ICCs in the following areas:

Velvet Rainbow
Blueberry
Emerald

Bro Ddyfi
(Machynlleth & Dyfi Valley)

   Radnorshire

      Ystradgnlais

       Welshpool

Newtown

An ICC comprises the integration of 4 main elements:

(ICCs may have additional elements depending on the area in which they are located)

In Powys although there are 4 modestly-sized new buildings, the 5 ICCs are best described as ‘virtual’ centres consisting of a network of organisations, which work with children and families.

The networks in each of the 5 areas of Powys aim to:

  • encourage organisations to work together and to increase their knowledge of each other’s work
  • share ideas and resources
  • provide accurate up-to-date information on what services are available in a particular area (5 Co-ordinators have been appointed to gather detailed information on available services and to make it accessible to all)
  • avoid duplication and maximise opportunities
  • research the needs of the area and bridge any gaps in service on offer to young children and young families as a whole
